The Friends of Island Library gratefully thank the Island community for their support. Whether a donor, a volunteer or a purchaser, you all contributed to an amazingly successful used book sale and silent auction.
Island Storytime – For ages 2-6, 30 minutes. An open program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation. Meets every Saturday at 10:30 am from September 7th through December 14th
Island Teen Corps – Booktober Party! In-Person – We need teens with a community spirit to help out with our Booktober Party for kids. You’ll help pass out supplies and assist kids in all the making and the doing. Teens in grades 6-12 can register online at wcls,org. Tues, Oct 1, 3:15 – 4:30 PM.
Island Booktober Party! – Join us for a celebration of all things reading. Tell us about your favorite books and discover some new ones. Make crafts to decorate your home library. Eat, drink, and be merry – reading is the best! Comfy clothes are encouraged. Tues, Oct 1st, 3:30 – 4:30. PM.
Wild Fermented Breads with Genevieve Bardwell In-Person – Join us for a hands-on lesson on kneading and a slide show presentation about making raised bread without commercial yeast. All participants will be provided with a sourdough starter from 1890s Cripple Creek, Colorado. Ms. Bardwell will show you tricks for making a crispy crust. Then you will learn how to make the unique salt-rising bread starter, which uses wild bacteria instead of yeast. She will compare and contrast these 2 breads, plus provide tips for success in creating the wonderful cheesy funk flavor in salt-rising bread. Lastly, there will be samples of a gluten-free sourdough starter for anyone interested. Come share your bread stories and walk away with recipes and samples of wild-fermented bread. The Friends of Island Library( FOIL) is a local non-profit that owns the Island Library property; supports the Library through fundraising and promoting the purposes and activities of the Island Library and its community.
The FOIL Board meets monthly on the third Monday of the month. The next meeting will be Sept 16th at 6:00 PM at the library. All library patrons are welcomed.
