The Friends of Island Library Used Book Sale is opening on Sunday, June 26th, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and will be open daily through Labor Day. No credit cards, only cash or personal checks. There will be cashiers available to make change on opening day.
We will be accepting donations through Thursday, June 23th.
We have an amazing selection of books at bargain prices ($2 hardcover, $1 paperback and large print, and only 50 cents for all children and teen books).
Many thanks to all the people who have donated books – you make the sale a success. Funds raised at the book sale are used to maintain the building and grounds and to sponsor events and programs at Island Library.
Fundraising Auction for the Library – The Friends of Island Library will be holding a silent auction fund raiser on Sunday August 7, 4 to 6 PM.
We are looking for people to donate items and services that we can auction. Here is a suggestion list:
• Island canned or dried goods to fill auction baskets • Theme baskets that you create; dog, cat, bird, baby, girl, boy
• Lummi island arts and crafts; we cannot accommodate wall art that is not made by or related to Lummi island.
• Items that are new or in very good condition that you no longer need. Vases, bowls, quilts, musical instruments, game boards, stain glass, heirloom items, and any artist created item.
• Services: yoga class, personal trainer, music lessons, art lessons, craft lessons, lawn mowing, window washing, cooking lessons, massages, dinners, pies, cakes
Library Board of Trustees Meeting – The Board of Trustees of the Whatcom County Library System will meet for their regular monthly meeting at the Island Library. Board of Trustees Meetings are open to the public in accordance with RCW 42.30. Persons wishing to be provided an internet link or telephone number to access the meeting are asked to please contact Ruth Nail at Ruth.Nail@wcls.org or (360) 305-3641 before 4:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, or at least three business days in advance of the meeting if special accommodations are required to attend the meeting. Summer Reading Kick-Off –, Come join this all-day kick-off celebration! We will be distributing Summer Reading books to all youth, offering fun crafts for the whole family, and promoting our exciting slate of in-person programs happening this Summer. For everyone-babes to adults, Tuesday, Jun 28th, 1:00-7:00 PM.
Island Storytime – For ages 2-6,for 30 minutes. An open program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation. For early years. Weekly, starting Saturday, Jul 2, 10:30 – 11:00 AM.
Rock Out at the Library – Paint some big rocks to decorate the library and some smaller rocks to take home. There will probably be a story in there, too(it’s the library, after all). For kids. Fri, Jul 15, 2:00-3:00 PM.
Gnome Homes and Fairy Dwellings – Learn about these mythological beings and make cozy, whimsical nooks and abodes for them. For kids. Friday, Jul 29, 2:00-3:00 PM.
The Friends of Island Library( FOIL) is a local non-profit that supports the Island Library through fundraising and promoting the purposes and activities of the Island Library and its community. FOIL meets bi-monthly on the second Monday of the month. Next meeting is Aug 8th at 4:00 PM at the library.
