FOIL’s Annual Meeting will be on Sunday, Oct. 21at at 4:00 PM at the Library. We will elect board members for the coming year. Come meet the FOIL Board and hear about FOIL’s next project – replacing the Noble Barn.

Back To School Fun at the Library – Games and more to get you fired up for school! And, yes, snacks will be provided. Tues, Sept. 25th, 2:30-3:30.

TED Talks – TED Talks are influential videos from expert speakers on education, business, science, tech and creativity. Watch an engaging TED Talk on the big screen in the Island Library’s meeting room and stay to share thoughts about the topic. Call or visit the library for each month’s topic. Friends of Island Library will provide snacks. Meets monthly on the last Thursday. Thur, Sept 27th, 7:00-8:00 PM.

Philosophy of Theoretical Physics: A Discussion Group- Are you curious about the mystery and mechanism of gravity, the nature, meaning, and problems of time, or the possibilities of many worlds and multiverses? Get together to discuss topics like these with Lee Moseley and your curious friends and neighbors, and explore the most vexing questions in theoretical physics. Twelve Tuesday sessions October 2 through December 18. For adults, Tues, Oct 2 , 6:30 – 8:00 PM.

Advanced Care Planning Workshop – Join us for this dynamic presentation on advance care planning. Learn why advance care planning is important for everyone, commonly used terms, choosing someone to be your health care agent, how to talk with loved ones and doctors about your preferences around end-of-life care, and what to consider when making your choices. Presented by the Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement. Thurs, Oct 4th, 5:00 – 7:00 PM.

Pizza and a Movie – Read the book, see the movie! Enjoy two hours of pizza and movies based on a book on the (fairly) big screen at Island Library. Movie titles are posted at the library; call (360) 758-7145 for more information. Meets the first Saturday of the month, starting October 6. For grades 6-12. Oct. 6, 2:00-4:00 PM.

Beginning Jewelry Repair – Bring that broken necklace or earring to Gayle Mitterer’s class on jewelry repair and learn how to fix it! Tools and some replacement parts will be available. Space is limited; registration required. Sat. Oct 13th, 2:00-4:00PM.

Camp Fire Sing-Along and Scary Stories for Adults – Join us as we sit around the “campfire,” listen to scary stories, sing camp songs, and eat s’mores–all in our cozy library. Sat, Oct 13, 7:30 – 9:00PM.

Island Story Time – An open program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation. For ages 2-6, Sat., Oct 6th at 10:30-11:00 AM.

Island Readers and Writers – Get together at the Beach Store Cafe to share books and writing on the first Monday of each month. Readers will share opinions about the books they are reading and/or discuss a book chosen for each month. Writers will have the opportunity to offer support for each other’s work. The Cafe will host this library program with a menu of drinks and desserts. On, Oct 1, 7:00-8:30

Stories of the Salish Sea and Lummi Nation People – Tim Ballew, Sr. is a member of the Lummi Nation. He has fished since he was a young boy on the Nooksack River, in Bellingham Bay and the Salish Sea. He brings his years of experience a fisher, law enforcement officer and as former tribal chairman to his presentations, sharing his cultural background and traditions. All are welcome. Sat. The Friends of Island Library( FOIL) Board meets the second Monday of the month.. Upcoming board meetings are on Monday, Oct 8th at 7:00 PM. Board meetings are open to all.
