FOIL wishes to heart fully thank all those who participated in the Greetings, Goodwill and Giving Silent Auction. All of you – the donors, the musicians, the helpers , the gatherers, and the bidders. The auction was a memorable evening for one and all. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Upcoming Programs/Events

    Let’s Make Valentines – Make one-of-a-kind valentines for family and friends. All materials provided. For grades K-5 . Tues, Feb 12th, 2:30-3:30 PM.

    TED Talks – are influential videos from expert speakers on education, business, science, tech and creativity. Watch engaging talks on the big screen in the Island Library’s meeting room and stay to share thoughts about the topic. Friends of Island Library will provide snacks. Currently meeting weekly on Thursdays. Next meeting Jan. 29th, 6:30 8:00 PM.

    Island Story Time – An open program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs with opportunities for movement and interactive participation. Weekly on Saturday. For ages 2-6, Sat., Dec. Feb. 2nd , 10:30-11:00 AM.

    Pizza and a Movie – Read the book, see the movie! Enjoy two hours of pizza and movies based on a book on the (fairly) big screen at Island Library. Movie titles are posted at the library; call (360) 758-7145 for more information. Meets the first Saturday of the month, For grades 6-12. Feb. 2nd, 2:00-4:00 PM.

    Movie Night for Grown-ups – Enjoy a movie on our new big screen in the Hanson meeting room. You choose the movie, we’ll make the popcorn. Let’s us know what you’d like to see, and we’ll give you a vote for the next movie showing on the first Thursday of each month. Feb. 7th, 6:30 – 8:00 PM.

The Bald Eagle– A Local Treasure – A representative of the North Cascades Audubon Society will speak about the lives of eagles, how to observe these majestic birds without disturbing them and eagle-watching field trips this winter. Sponsored by the Friends of Island Library and Lummi Island Heritage Trust. Sat, Jan 19th, 7:30 – 8:45 pm.

An Evening with Steve Mayo – Pacific Northwest marine artist Steve Mayo has had a lifetime interest in maritime art and history. As a youth, he learned to sail on the Columbia River where he became fascinated with fishing boats, tugs, and ocean-going shipping. Today Mayo and his wife live in Bellingham, WA where he continues to paint from his studio overlooking the waterfront of Bellingham Bay. His paintings reside in many private and corporate collections internationally and have been featured as covers and illustrations in a number of books on Northwest regional and British Columbia history. Sat, Feb 23 rd. 7:30 – 8:45 PM.

The Friends of Island Library( FOIL) Board meets the second Monday of the month.. Upcoming board meetings are on Monday, Feb. 11th at 7:00 PM. Board meetings are open to all.
